I recently read an article about an underwater volcanic eruption last year the may have been the largest eruption in modern times. Evidently it vaporized 100 or 1,000 times more seawater than originally estimated and theoretically, that is what is driving the higher heat and humidity - the excess moisture in the air.

That is estimated to have raised temperatures by 0.06 degrees, I doubt we would really be feeling a lot better if it were 0.06 degrees cooler.

Typically, volcanic eruptions unleash sulfur-based aerosols, which block sunlight, cooling the planet, but the Hunga Tonga produced only a small amount of aerosols. At the same time, it vaporized a large volume of seawater. That water vapor, a heat-trapping gas, could raise global temperatures by 0.06 degrees F (more than 0.03 degrees C) over the next several years, according to a recent study.

The Summer in the Augusta area has been rather mild as far as the temperature goes. Muggy, sure, but hotter than hell it ain't.
June was 4.4° below Normal for the average high and 4.6° below Normal for the average temp.
July was 1.5° below Normal for average high and 0.9° below Normal for average temp.
August, to date, has been 1.4° below Normal for average high and 1.3° below Normal for average temp.
It has rained a lot in that area this Summer, which has kept the temperatures down, but has increased the humidity.
This is the problem with sensationalized headlines in weather coverage. Over time it alters one's perception and you start believing the hype. Some places are currently in a heatwave. Some places aren't. Media can and will convince you everywhere is burning hot, and they're good at it. They're so good at it that they will make you discredit objective data that says otherwise.

I've lived in South Florida since 1968. 4 major hurricanes hit Florida in the 38 years between 1966 and 2004. There have 8 major hurricanes to make landfall in the 19 hurricane seasons since 2004. That's twice as many major hurricanes in half the time. Hurricanes are fueled by warm sea surface temperatures. Go figure.

What's central Alabama? Doesn't seem any worse this summer compared to others.

I’m 42 and I just don’t think it was this hot when I was growing up
Well I'm old, really old and trust me I remember some really scorching heat. One summer (circa:1949 or 1950) it was so darned hot and dry all the grazing grass died. The only green plant available for the milk cows to eat - bitterweed. Yep, and I drank bittermilk for breakfast and happy to get it. I've always enjoyed my milk for breakfast.
But that was not the worst of it - the area was struck by an anthrax outbreak. The cow herds were decimated by the anthrax outbreak. So the farmers stacked their dead cows in piles with kindling, poured tractor fuel on the pile, and burned the carcasses. Yep, a devastating anthrax pandemic. All around us - farms with stacks of smoking cattle carcasses. Times was tuff but people pulled together and helped each other get through. Didn't matter your race - we pulled together.
During the depression nobody had any money, so the women in the neighborhood took to acting as midwives to help pregnant neighbors during childbirth. My Momma helped her black neighbor deliver her baby and in turn the black woman did the same for my Mom. People had lots of kids, so the women folk kept busy.
My hero was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Married my distant cousin. One winter he was arrested for shooting geese out of season on my great uncle's land. He showed the Game Warden his ID - and some government document. Game Warden said, "Thank you sir, enjoy the hunting". It was then I learned that by treaty Cherokee Indians had unrestricted hunting rights anytime, anywhere in North America. I thought he was God. But I digress.
Don't worry bout the heat. You'll survive, We did and you will too. My suggestion, fix yourself a nice big glass of iced tea (I love sweet tea) or lemonade with some ice, sit on your back porch, and watch the sun go down with your bride. Invite your neighbors to join you. Then just visit. That's what we did. I miss that.
Oh, and one more thing.....

Around Normal, maybe a tick over for some areas. Birmingham is the hotspot, get outside of there and there is a noticeable difference. I need to look more in depth to see how much difference there is, though.

Don't believe the hype... it's always been 100+ degrees in La. every year.
Edit: I see I've received down votes, well, according to this forum it seems most believe it's no hotter this year than in most past years. So, yeah, it's been "100+ degrees in La., the norm" according to many.

Ok, Billy Nye, I will stop after this as I don't have time but this is another article and there is more data that you can search for it your interested (recently released and what I referred to), "Atmospheric water vapor absorbs solar radiation and re-emits it as heat; with tens of millions of tons of Tonga's moisture now adrift in the stratosphere, Earth's surface will be heating up — though it's unclear by how much, according to the study. But because the vapor is lighter than other volcanic aerosols and is less affected by gravity's pull, it will take longer for this warming effect to dissipate, and surface warming could continue "over the months to come," the scientists said." According to the national weather service since mid-june, as I wrote, the high and low temps in Augusta have averaged 1.1 degree higher than average in June, 8.58 degrees higher than average in July and thus far 6.3 degrees higher in August. The lows have been about normal, only slightly elevated. The heat Index has also been above average since mid June. We had an unusually late spring and the first couple of weeks of June were very mild...since its been hotter than hell and muggy as shite, regardless of what the average is, even though according to the NWS it is above average. Anyone who walks outdoors in the area right now, as we speak, would agree, it is hot as hell and muggy as shite...it is every August, unless it rains more than an hour or so....one need not stick their head up a bulls arse to know its likely to be dark and smelly...it is ALWAYS hot as hell and muggy as shite in Augusta in July and August...the media ain't got a thing in the world to do with it...it is proximity to the equator and the tilting of the planet that has taken place every august for the last couple of thousand years...the media didn't even exist then and when cave people walked out of the cave at 2 oclokc in the AUgusta area in August they said "damn, its hotter than hell and muggy as shite"...and had never heard of the media. It is hilarious to find so many otherwise semmingly normal people convinced that the media is hell bent on their destruction..

Here ya go:

Normal is what is Normal for that month per the historic climate record. Average is the average temp for that particular month. Every one of them, for every month is below Normal.

Then they're pretty damn soft and should probably consider moving.

They've convinced you that this Summer has been a whole lot hotter in your area than it actually is.
You're confusing Normal and Average temperature.

I'm not even sure what source you are looking at for your numbers. In order for the July high temperature to have been 8.58° above Normal (not Average), the area would have had to average a high of 102.7° for the month. Augusta didn't record a single 100°+ day through the entirety of July.
If it is for the Average Temperature (High and Low temp for a given day added together and divided by 2) the Average (not Normal) Average Temperature would have been 90.5°. That isn't possible with any of the recorded temperatures, and if that were the case I'm sure it would have shattered all records.
For August to currently be running 6.3° higher than Normal (not Average) the average high temperature would need to be 99.7°. 97° is the hottest day thus far in August.
Here is the weather.gov site that has the NOAA/NWS climatological record for your area
ETA: The Baton Rouge Airport (AKA Hell) wasn't even close to being 8.6° above Normal for the month of July.
