Is Western Union/MoneyGram for trashy people?

I'm 42 and have never sent or received money through one of these services. I only see white trash and Mexicans using this.

It isn't for trashy people at all. My contact from Nigeria uses it, and he represents a recently deceased prince. If he can entrust $10 million to Western Union then I can too.

It helps facilitate drug dealers who sell to working professionals. Instead of meeting every other day, a lot of dealers will unload weight in one transaction to last a week or two, usually the duration between the user's paychecks. Payment is then done in one Western Union transaction, and is usually picked up by someone other than the dealer and usually someone of the opposite sex, so you could theoretically claim it's a mistress if someone starting looking.

It has a tendency to be used by sketchy people who deal mainly in cash and/or don’t/can’t have a banking relationship, but I wouldn’t call the service in and of itself trashy.
