Going to doctor Friday, just wanted some opinions. Therapist says I have bad PTSD but more of a therapist from work. I don’t have panic attacks. Use to be happy but in a bad mood 90% of the time for last 3-4 years, and only think bad things I’ve seen on repeat, or only think about it happening to my family. No suicidal thoughts or anything. Don’t sleep anymore but can’t take meds at work to help me sleep. I’ve taken 3 melatonins tonight and wide awake, been up and busy since 6 a.m

Yes, no, and maybe. Depends on the person. Good pharmacological results for depression and anxiety often tale some trial and error on the Dr's part.

I could exercise more but run a mile and light weight workouts 3-4 days a week, fish, hunt, read a lot. For the most part don’t spend much time on social media, etc, some days worse than others

Cant say anything about Wellbutrin, but Ive had my share of issues in the past with anxiety/depression. Exercise absolutely makes my day. I crave it now and when Im struggling with something, thats how I clear my head. Keeping your head clear as often as possible is what you need to do. Easier said than done, but if you see improvement, youll appreciate its benefits.

Regarding sleep, I also go through stretches of time when I cant fall asleep and sometimes Ill wake up in the middle of the night a couple times and just not sleep good. Melatonin doesnt do a thing for me. I pulled an all nighter on it just laying there with my eyes closed for 8 hours... ive found that Zzzquil is the best OTC for me if I need to fall asleep and stay asleep, but itll make you a little groggy in the morning if you dont take it early enough in the evening. If you have to wake up at 8, take it between 11-12. Just my personal experience of course, everyone is different.

Good luck buddy. Hang in there. I still have days where Itll seem like the sky is grey on sunny day and then the next day Ill remember that it isnt too bad. The brain is a weird thing for some people.

Thank you, I’ve been taking my wife’s Ristoril I think it’s called when off duty but can’t take it at work, only way I sleep. I only take it the night before I go to work but not my first night off. It’s hard to explain but my head feels full like your stomach can after you eat, but full of bad thoughts constantly. Took 4 shifts off, almost 2 weeks a month ago and couldn’t even enjoy it. As much as I dread going to work, at work is only time my “depression” issues aren’t there, but still can’t sleep at work. Therapist says it’s normal to feel better at work even though I’d much rather be home. Actually my wife and kids are great. No pictures haha

It sounds like work is the source for a lot of what you're describing. Have you considered changing jobs?

Well I unfortunately chose to be a paramedic 20 years ago and not much else out there that I know of where I wouldn’t have to move my family. I don’t wanna say location I’m at or anything. Love my job honestly but have regrets nowadays. My company is good to me, but still got to ride the box for a few more years. No college degree or anything. Just 6 months of emt class, some anatomy and physiology and 2 year medic class, and of course a HS diploma is all I got.

It’s that brain fog. Yeah ive had stretches of that before. Im sure you have tried this, but go see someone man. Talk to a therapist first and then talk about getting to a recommended psychiatrist familiar with PTSD that can maybe get you on anti-depressants. And dont listen to people who will bash therapists and Psychiatrists on here. They have their jobs for a reason and help many many people.

I’ve talked to a therapist but probably not the kind I need. I am going to discuss it more with doctor this week

Yeah start there. They will guide you in the right direction. Find someone you are comfortable with and even mention to them about anti-depressants. Jusg DO NOT go to your primary care physician for it, unless you really do trust them, but even then I wouldnt suggest it. If you go to a legit psychiatrist, they have a thorough test you take that sees how your brain works and matches you with the one of many anti-depressants out there. Safest way to do it. Your pcp would just give you something generic and say good luck.

Would it be good to ask PCP to refer me or do I just call a psychologist up and make an appointment? I’ll look up the ones in my city

PCP would be a good person to refer you. Just dont settle on him prescribing you for something. Either your pcp or current therapist if you are actively seeing one. Good luck bud.

That’s a lot. Don’t undersell yourself. I hire guys like you looking for a change all of the time. I very much prefer a guy with your background that I can train than a kid right out of college.

You know, sometimes that’s not enough.you know, sometimes people’s chemical imbalances work differently than other people’s.

Could help but it sounds like you may need an SSRI.

I sold Wellbutrin for a few years. It is a good drug, albeit somewhat old. Doesn't mean its bad, or not appropriate for you, but there may be better, more modern alternatives. Without a complete medical history and evaluation there is no way to say if this is right for you or not.

Your PCP can evaluate you and make an informed decision. This is a 1st step. Whatever you get on may require a dosage adjustment depending on how well it works.

I'm not a Doctor.I'm a Patient.

I take Celexa(anti-depressant).I can't sleep without it.

I have friends that take different ones, including Wellbutrin.

I'm not depressed,I just can't sleep without it.

I also take xanax for anxiety.

I'm convinced that I wouldn't have to take Celexa except that when it became fashionable a Doctor put me on an anti-depressent.When I quit taking it I couldn't sleep.

A different Doctor I was seeing at that time told me that if you can't go to sleep at all,it's Anxiety. If you sleep a couple of hours and wake up and can't go back to sleep,it's depression.(His opinion)

It sounds like you may be dealing with something different than me,but they seem to cause the same thing. No sleep.

I wish the best and hope that you and your Doctor find something that helps.

God Bless.

Yes, it absolutely works, with a caveat: I’ve never dealt with ptsd, I’m bp2. I’ve been through a lot of antidepressants, and Wellbutrin sr 150 in combination w lithium is my magic recipe. I hope it works for you.
