Putting pure oxygen exclusively in your lungs is a bad idea.
As for the effects of e-cigs vs cigarettes, little is really known, but most of the places I have looked since one of the Pulmonary publications (I think it was CHEST in around 8/2015 but could not find exactly what I was thinking of, then got lazy) first described it is that there is a high incidence of dual-use of cigarettes and vaping, something between 65 and 85% from what I recall and depending on the article in question.
The article was basically, "should we, doctors, recommend e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool?"
The answer at the time, and from the most recent time I reviewed it which has probably been near a year ago, was, "most people will still use both, so recommending it to all as an effective therapy probably isn't best" and the other was something like, "the product is so unregulated and the use of cigarettes in this population is so high, and the product is so new that long term data that is good quality is a long way off to really determine cancer and COPD rates vs smoking cigarettes"
When people ask, I'll often tell them that it's probably not worse than a cigarette though it could very easily eventually be associated with its own certain handful of unique problems, and realistically most people that do try to use it to quit smoking do wind up still doing both.
Someone earlier mentioned the recent bout of lung injuries from vaping- the State Medical Board actually had a little release on the matter recently, but the nail was already pretty much hit on the head- it seems to be a Vitamin E acetate product that vaporizes then solidifies in the lungs, and it has really been associated just with THC-containing...what do you call them? Juices, cartridges, products, etc? That is simply a theory though, and it is not certain yet.

I've taken care of two people who have had injuries from juul in the past 3 months.
I mean the unregulated stuff off the streets is obvious. But it's not just unregulated things.

re we still talking about your vape? Because if not, that would be crazy.
Same here, I'll quit one day. Just like I did cigarettes.
Hmmmm
Yeah, I was thinking about that joke when I made that comment.

I'm not promoting it or saying it's any less addictive. It isn't. Truth be told, if my addiction to nicotine is going to be what kills me, I'd rather it be my lungs than oral cancer and be disfigured before I die. I wouldn't recommend anyone start vaping on it's own merits.

How could inhaling thick vaporized liquids usually containing propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, flavorings, additives, and differing amounts of contaminants deep into your lungs be bad for you.

Dont smoke or vape but if I had to choose to be around someone doing one or the other it is vaping everytime.

When vaping first was introduced, I thought about the dangers of inhaling water vapor into the lungs. As a microbiology major, I automatically think about fungal disease.

The problem isn't that vaping is bad for you. It is all the bullshite they put into the carts/juices that ends up being bad for you. It is like blaming a car maker (ford) for it driving like shite, when in reality the problem is the tires. When companies are not doing proper purifying on their extracts, that is when the problems arise.
Look at vaping weed. You won't see a problem in the weed vaping community because it is hard to frick up the weed without the user not knowing (generally speaking). However there is a problem when you get to the weed cartridges, which can experience the same problems as tobacco vapers, and that is from the vape juice/oil having bullshite in it. Not from the actual vaping.

Anything you smoke that has a burning end on it is bad for you.

Just as disgusting, I hate driving thru a just-exhaled cloud of vape smoke an some intersection.

This vaping has togo. Can’t stand being next to a guy blowing vape smoke in my face. You gotta vape, take that shite outside.

There’s a scientific study that says vaping is 95% healthier than smoking. All of the other info coming out I feel like is propaganda funded by the tobacco industry

Its much more than this, we have developed a culture that has has been propagandized against anything that even remotely resembles smoking,no matter what is obvious in front of them, that millions vape but all the anti vaping lobby can find is a few out liers and vaping now is entering its third decade. Even with that massive sample size the propanganda has filled their minds ( half this board) they cant see the huge benefits and the lives vaping has saved... and by the way to you virulant anti vapors most dont do it because they are addicted its because they enjoy it.

My opinion is if you do it socially like say vape when you drink it’s probably better than smoking.
Doing it daily can’t be good for you. Inhaling water vapor constantly can’t do your lungs any good, too much fluid build up

Tell me how inhaling nothing but chemicals is ok for your lungs. Not asking for a friend

I overheard someone the other day going on about how bad the propylene glycol was and that is was making people sick. Problem with that argument is that it has been used in nebulizers and inhalers since the 50s. I didn’t say anything but almost wanted to tell them that it is probably the safest thing in them!
The jury is still out officially on the long term effects but it has to be better than smoking.

Well, the whole industry is mostly unregulated. I didn't mean to suggest that lung injury wasn't possible with the "mainstream" stuff, and I shortened my post because I get awfully wordy.
It wouldn't surprise me if a few major brands while tweaking delivery systems, juices (again, is that what they're called?), wind up accidentally discovering a new irritant or dangerous combination of them. Calling them "safe" would not be accurate. I don't think that "safer than cigarettes" is even a great moniker for now. Maybe one day we could say that. But I think there's a big difference between, "we know they're not as bad as cigarettes" vs "we don't know that they're worse." The latter is where I believe we stand today.
