Uber has gone downhill fast. At first the drivers were great. Very professional and you never had to worry about anything. Didn’t take long before the trash of society started driving for them though

Right after my wife died I did a little Uber driving. It was a way for me to get out of the house and interact with people without having them ask how I was doing and rehashing the painful preceding months.

At first it was great. I made very good money. After taxes and wear and tear on my car I was making about $17 an hour. Gross wage was about $30.

Then they started cutting rates on drivers. It got to a point where it was no longer worth my time. I remember the last ride I did. Before the cuts it would have been a 25 ride, and after the cuts it was 16. I said frick this, shut down the app and have not looked back.

I surmise that drivers like me, professional people with nice well maintained cars, just said "frick this" in large numbers.

Uber is a truly horrible company though. On all levels.

Yet still better than taking a cab.

There is absolutely no way this is factual Yes, there were cuts to driver rates, but not 40%. Not anywhere close to that.

It is 100% factual. The largest rate cut in Baton Rouge was over 30% in January of 16. That is when i quit. There were other small cuts before that.

It used to be 20% of the gross fare less a $1.00 safety fee. Not it is 25% of the gross fare less a larger safety fee.

Oh bullshite! They may have some issues, but it's been nothing but great for me since this service came to Nola.

Read up on the actual company. It is a terrible company.

This doesn't have to do with the service they provide, it has to do with the company itself. They are shady as frick.

Damn, didn't realize they did it that big in BR. I started driving in '17. Can't blame you for getting out.

Yep. A great story about the shortest distance to the airport. Looks like Ragib took the shortest route, right? C'mon Ragib...you are better than this!

Wife's trip earlier that same morning.

Meh, sort of. If there is surge pricing it goes up double, which is freaking crazy when you consider the base rate is so high.

I have no problem with the flat fee for an airport ride. Usually just makes more sense to call a cab when surging.

Why'd you cut out the price on your wife's trip? Regardless, Uber will refund you anytime a driver tries to add mileage to your trip. Can't get your time back, but you can get your money back.

It also looks like they went two different places.

And time of day can definitley alter the route.

Uber doesn’t always charge a flat fee to the airport. It depends on the city.

It goes up by whatever the surge is. Surge goes in 10% increments. Not necessarily double. Could be a 1.2 surge (which is 20% over regular cost). Could be a 5.4 surge (440% greater than regular cost).

If you can get one. Usually when surge is high, it;'s because there is an event going on that cabbies don't want to stray far from either.

Cabbies love airport runs. That is all they want to do. Guarantee a cab by calling in and saying you need an airport run, then change your destination once they pick you up.
