I personally think it is torture. Nobody has a clue how hot these things can be for the horses. Especially horses running around all day. It is horrific.

I threatened to get some for my horse to embarass him if he didn't straighten up.
He was really good at the show this weekend.
Eta: some of those are compression blankets that horses will wear when traveling long distances on planes, like flying to and from Europe.
