Is this a fair price for HVAC?

Amana
5 ton
16 SEER
Condenser, Evaporator and Gas furnace (use existing duct work)
$7,725

I know this isn't the best way to go about things, but I am pressed for time and haven't had time to get multiple quotes. I'm going out of town and don't want the unit to fail while I am gone.

From what I have gathered, it seems to be on the higher side, but not outrageous. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

My dad has an Amana. They were bought by Goodman, I believe. His AC has broken down for several weeks before they were able to get the part and repair it.

I don't have a ton of other experience with Amana, but I've heard they've gone downhill and not considered upper half. Rheem seems to be the best quality for the price and Trane is the best.

Yeah honestly that has what has me a bit hesitant, I have not read many good things about Amana, and some bad things about Goodman. For a carrier or Trane I would feel better about that price

I have two Goodman units for about 10 years now and have had NO trouble. Actually, I DID just have a condenser fail...That has been it.

Really good price but Amana, I wouldn't. Better to spend more and know you are good for 15-20 years.

I went Carrier.

Amana/Goodman is junk, but the price is about where it should be. Generally speaking, $1500/ton is about right.

How much was your carrier unit if you don't mind me asking please? I am about to pull the trigger in a carrier unit myself and I am waiting for the estimate now.

Yes for the ductwork and the same system my family wanted to charge me 5000 more than that.

I have a 5 ton trane going on almost 20 years. It's a boss. Companies that service it say tranes are the best built and will last for a very long time

Yeah I think American Standard and Trane are basically the same thing now. They use the same components but have a different brand names. I haven't researched that a ton though.

ETA- this guy says they are built in the same facility fwiw

"
So what is the difference? It’s a quick read because there are only two:

The paint color – although they go through the same paint booths and process.
The nameplate or sticker – Trane gets an orange nameplate and American Standard gets a blue nameplate"

5 ton unit... really big single floor house? Wouldn't it make more sense to have two thermostats split between two 2 ton units?

I wish I could help with that. There are different tiers of Carrier. We took the 2nd highest one. In total, all work combined, we spent about $14k. But a lot of duct work and rewiring was done. DFW prices may be different too.

2400 sf single story. The guy actually suggested the 5 ton 16 seer because it matches my old btus, while the other seer options were either 4 or 5 ton
