Vitamix
This is the general lee to your yugo.
So powerful it grinds up leafy green vegies into a drink in 45 seconds.
Throw in a few carrots and a potato and onion and have soup ready for stovetop seasoning and final touches (saute garlic) in 2 minutes.
Easiest to clean. Put in 3 inches water and drop of dish soap. Run on high 3 minutes. Rinse.

We had a cheap one in college, then we got a KitchenAid as a gift a few years later. It was solid, heavy, and lasted about 6-8 years. Finally burned up the motor, which I thought was impossible with something like that. We bought a Ninja, and it rocks. It isn't one of the top of the line versions, but I love the plastic pitcher, spout for pouring, and the blade is removable for dishwashing. It also has 3 sets of blades on the stem, so it blends at all levels. Helpful when you're making a pitcher of something, and don't have to wait for all of the food to get spun down to the bottom to get blended. It handles frozen berries and ice easy.

My cheap blender was no match for a few frozen strawberry daiquiris. Burnt up the damn motor. Once we got the top of the line from Williams Sonoma, smooth strawberry daiquiris ever since.
A cheap blender has a hard time mincing ice

I think he just made that up.
Does hobby lobby even sell 1/5 hp motors or 1/4?
Then you have to mount the thing.
I tried making a blender with a 1/2 hp washing machine motor.
I used a,1:1 ratio. Damn thing blew apart on me.
I may try to make another.
I still want to see if I can make my own death ray with all my old magnetrons.
