If you go to the cheapest one, then expect incompetent people watching your children.

It's rare, but it's not unheard of for injuries or death to occur at daycare. I know of an infant that died at a daycare in Louisiana. No cameras to show what happened. Most daycare have cameras now, but this one did not. Think about that.

The real goated setup is a corporate daycare that's subsidized by your company and is located on campus.

cheap as hell (relatively), highest quality of the 4 daycares we've used by a large margin, and the only time they weren't open is when the office was closed anyway.

Man I miss that place lmao.

jesus. i wish this was more common.

the only place i have ever worked that offered it (massive O&G), it was not subsidized in any way and was expensive AF even compared to the local daycares. But .....was right next door.

Ours was subsidized by my massive O&G employer. IIRC it was like 800 a month or something like that. Absolutely crazy deal compared to anything else (and I seriously doubt anything could touch the quality of this place). They could've charged double and it would still be worth it in my eyes compared to what we've paid for other daycares.

jelly. that would be a benefit that would certainly make me reconsider playing the job market.

daycare ease of mind for wifey = dad gets to work 5 days a week in peace.

Absolutely. Wasn't even a huge price difference that was the issue for us. First was the only one we could get into since we had just moved with a newborn and the infant classes usually require reserving a spot. Son was at the first place for like 4 months. Was just unorganized and the staff was not the best. Actually read a lot of terrible reviews that were not shocking. I do admit I really liked the lady who did the infant class itself, but even she quit that place right after we left.

The new place was just way more organized, staff is great, and I have way less concern about the welfare of my kid being there. Son is older now and we have a 4 year old still at the daycare. Have actually gotten to know those people well as my wife will stay active with the activities and stuff they do. Can't imagine if we'd have had to put up with 8+ years of the other place.

Hard to describe because it's not like they left my kid locked in a closet at the first place. But there is definitely a peace of mind difference when you experience good vs. bad.

The only downside to that is that the kids ' friends are all going to be your co-worker's kids

go up there for a tour. Not on a Friday afternoon or a weekend Open House. Nope, trot your arse up there @10AM on a Wednesday. And see the conditions. Is it clean? Are the kids being taught anything? Are there TVs on? Is the Director actually on campus that day?

This.

You want to see what your kid will actually experience…not what the daycare staff want you to see.

I’ll add, does it seem out of control and chaotic? That will tell you something about the daycare and the other kids.

I sent mine to an in-home cheaper one but it was an older lady in the family who had kept several generations of kids we knew. She potty trained my 2-year-old son, and they played outside a lot. It was like an 80s childhood for a modern kid. But if i didn’t know the people, i would go higher end. Also, they didn’t teach them things, i had to do that after work for letters and numbers and such.

No matter where you choose, my advice is to show up unannounced in the middle of the day to pick up your kid to see their reaction.
