I've been on realtor and checking out northern CA, eastern Oregon, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, northern Alabama, and northwstern Nevada and home prices are nuts.

I've been amazed checking out prices in Montana.

And I'm not talking about Bozeman.

If you drop your standards some you could live in North Georgia.

There is absolutely no way you will find anything in CA or OR that is livable for $250K.

It’s the wrong time to be jumping into the market.

For that price range you can buy most anything in Jackson, Wy. Nice mountain town with trails, etc. .

Chattanooga is awesome but tough to find anything decent below $350K.

Weren't bad at all two years ago when we bought, but have gone up around 40-50% since then.

We bought right around $109/sf and just had a house in the neighborhood with (in my opinion) lesser finishes sell for $150/sf.

That's still cheaper than a lot of the country, though.

You should be able to find this, if you're okay with it not being completely updated.

Best bet at that price range is probably West Virginia.

Colorado Springs, CO
Raleigh, NC
Charlotte, NC suburbs
Missouri outside of St. Louis closer to the Ozarks
Allentown, PA. About an hour from Pittsburgh taxes are high though.

Saw an article the other day saying how Grand Junction area was very affordable for Colorado. Western slope still has some affordable places.

I just moved into West Little Rock - 2550 SQ FT @ $89.00 per SQ FT

That's by far the best deal I've seen in 16 months of searching.

Old people who died, house never went on the market is the only reason we got it for that price. Good luck is all I can say.

I’ve never lived in a place with snow. The western slope just seems out there and driving to a major city is unattainable for 3 months out of the year.

I did have friends that lived in Denver. They preferred the extra drive to the western slopes for quieter skiing trips.

Are you trolling? That is one of the most expensive markets in the world.

Western North Carolina would be my #1 choice for what you describe.

My daughter bought a tiny little house, in West Seattle with no air conditioning, for about $480,000. It’s just an okay neighborhood.

Oh yeah, that was before the pandemic, so it’s probably more now.
