I went through scouts as a leader when my boys were young. The best part of scouts is for the boys to hang out with adult males and just be around males. I would never send my son to a female leader. Nothing against her as a woman, but I feel scouts is supposed to have adult male role models. Plain and simple.
That being said, I saw plenty of POS worthless dads who had their sons in scouts and the dads wouldn’t lift a finger to do anything. I didn’t volunteer as a leader because I wanted to, I did it for the kids. Every dad should step up and help out.
I do give mad props to the moms who stepped up when the dads didn’t. But they still shouldn’t be there, dads should be.

My mother is a scout leader. And is a complete badass.
I don't think there is any question some women would and do make excellent Scoutmasters. They certainly do an infinitely better job than the men that don't even bother to step up.
As I was coming up as a Scout and later a Scouter we didn't have many female Scouters in my council and there weren't any female members of our AO lodge. While I expect it would change the tone of a troop (probably bending closer to an ideal Scout tone) I would still prefer it be an all-male organization but without men volunteering their time it can't happen.
The vast majority of the men that complain about the current state of the Boy Scouts vis a vis women are not and were not Scouters themselves and since they aren't willing to volunteer their time they can keep their mouth shut.

Sadly, less men/Dads are willing to step up
