Is the phrase “leaning in” new?

The context I am referring to is for example, “he is leaning into his bad guy persona.” I’m sure this has been around for a while but I don’t recall hearing this until the last 6 months or so, and now I hear it used daily (especially in sports media). Is this new or am I just out of the loop on this one?

Buzzwords in 2010-15 Example:
"you and your team need to lean in to the discomfort to move the needle. Identify your low hanging fruit and establish an action plan for your hearburn items...then hold people accountable. If you dont see measurable results, you may need to get down from the 30000 ft view and get more granular, or even get in the weeds yourself"
Sucked then, and sucks even more revisiting today

It’s true. No one had said “leaning in” before and then Scott Van Pelt pioneered it back on May 8. Before you know it those copycats on The View we’re talking about leaning in.

Not new, it's some woke phrase that feminists started using back during the Obama administration. Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook exec) wrote some women's empowerment book called Lean In.
I've heard it used two ways: one is to lean in to the curve, meaning go with the flow. The other is to lean in like at a table at meeting, essentially meaning speak up, be present, have your voice heard, be an opinionated bitch with #nofilter.
Lean in, like many other phrases has just been overused and perverted to the point of no longer having much meaning. Talking heads use phrases like that to sound hip and like they're in the know.

This is the “new norm” in corporate lingo. This and “bubble up”. Can not stand that shite. The ones who typically use these buzzwords are, what I would consider, less than intelligent.

The phrase gained popularity by Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In. The book is controversial as many have said it takes more than “leaning in” for some people (minorities; women) to get ahead in life.
