You’ll get excommunicated if you think Pluto isn’t a planet

I'm gonna go with Black Science Guy's take on science over the OT.

ETA: I'm sorry I got some Seth Meyers on your screen.

Pluto is a planet as far as I'm concerned. The IAU made up some arbitrary definition for what a planet is because those eggheads hate Disney and wanted to screw over everyone's favorite planet not named Earth.

It's a Dwarf-Planet, which is a nice fancy title for a glorified asteroid.

We must have standards. The Solar System has all kinds of cool shite already. Inflating the number of real planets doesn't make it sound any cooler unless we can inhabit or exploit them.

Because it is highly unlikely that I or anyone else, will ever make any decision of significance based on whether society considers that worthless rock to be planet or not, I have wonder why this is still a controversy?

It doesn't matter how we classify it, there ain't shite we can do with it. We can't colonize or mine it anymore readily than we can Luna.

Unless, it contains a big-arse deposit of something we can frick, eat, smoke or use to build or power our machines then who, besides astronomers, astrophysicists and SciFi nerds, gives 3 shits about what we call it? There's more important shite to investigate.

People have a weird attachment to things they learn early in life. It’s counterproductive, but people are stupid.

Hasn’t cleared it’s own orbit, not even the biggest KBO. If it’s a planet, we know of a bunch more that need to be listed as planets. Either way, you’ll have to deal with change. I know summa you’s struggle with that.
