Is New York’s state nickname problematic?

New York is nicknamed the Empire State. To me that sort of indicates a level of acceptance of an empire and therefore colonization. In these troubling times does that make New York and anyone who would willingly live in a state with that nickname problematic?

Well Georgia is the Empire State of the South, and is named after King George, so by that logic too the name needs to be changed obviously.
