Is it ok to break the law to catch a big fish criminal?

let's say you're a lawyer, and there's a big time criminal you want bad. but the only way to get the info you need to bust him is through illegal means, what do you do?

Illegally obtained evidence can't be used in a criminal trial. Idk about civil.
