I think it’s a mental trick due to black and white photo, style of the time, his status, etc. it’s like your mind is expecting him to be older.

I used to resent the old man for being so hard on me and putting me to work, not letting me sleep in.
Now I’m glad he was hard on my worthless teenage arse. Because it takes a hard hammer to chisel granite, and somehow as I look back I realize the wordless lessons he taught me.
Wake up and get at it, daylight is burning. Half these kids can’t be bothered to get up of they aren’t getting rained on. The thing I tell young fellas, #1, just show the frick up, before it’s time to work. Every goddamn day. Because someone with more talent than you that isn’t reliable ain’t gonna go as far as someone who can be relied on. Skills can be taught. Ethic can’t.
