So to them it would seem to be instant?

Depending on the distance of the trip and the acceleration of the vessel, yes.

I agree 100%. I love these discussions.

we know more about what's going on around the "black holes" than the phenomena themselves.
Even this science has been changing/developing recently in regards to the event horizon and the conservation of information.

I predict, is some kind of engineered control over mass and gravity
In order to control it, we have to understand it first.

Some of the ion drive experiements I've seen look promising in being able to approach light speed, but the bigger issue would be avoiding particle collisions in space.... even minute matter at that speed would do serious damage to the space vessel.

there is obviously a solution to this problem and it is probably a more elegant design than just pushing an object to the speed of light.

Instead of pushing... try pulling.

Pretty sure people wouldnt survive the radiation dose from a round trip. There was talk of using water for shielding.

I agree with this and it was one of the main points in my OP. I believe that we very well could be able to discover the means to travel throughout the universe if time were not a limiting factor. Do you believe we will have the time to master interstellar travel? Solid points have been made on both sides already in this thread. We all know that this is not possible now and that time is the one commodity necessary in order for this to become a possibility.

Agree with Op. Faster than speed of light travel may not even be possible. Distances are too great and our life times too short.

Lots of life exists on lots of planets outside our solar system but doubt we ever visit it/them.

Wait, what?
I've never been to outerspace. So, I have no direct experience.
I don't know if they mean that the sun is just a yellow ball (or a white one), that it doesn't glow, or that it's not there.
Tons of explanations can be made... like the lack of matter to seperate the particles into a visible spectrum.
Everyone here on Earth "assumes" stuff.
Oh... of course the earth is flat.... etc.

I've read several theories that the sun is actually not visible to the astronauts in space.
Now, whether they are true or not... I can't say, b/c I've never been outside earth's atmosphere.
But that would be some shite hunh?

We've already theorized a way to make it happen, but its reality exceeds both our understanding, our mathematics, and our ability.

You love to play victim, for sure. But no attacks. Just pointing out that there are people who believe we will be able to warp the fabric of space and time.

I used to love that show Star Gate. If only.

I wonder if controlled wormholes are possible? Not with current tech, but in the realm of the universe.

Though I kind of like being alone, I feel like a species more advanced than us, would be like when the Spanish landed on the Indians.
Can't see how they would be good, unless it was the Vulcans (or preferably the Asgard)

Well then, what is the big glowing ball that astronauts take pictures of with sunspots on it? They do this pretty routinely. NASA has Sun-observing satellites also.

I know about the theory. And the drive and bending or folding space and so forth. It is just a theory though.

Not to mention potential problems with objects large and small between here and there that could wreck the ship moving through the space.

This shows how long it would take to travel to different locations throughout space while moving at the speed of light:

Another solid point.
