If they can do it in NASCAR without an issue and spill gas all over the place, I feel like I'll be just fine.

To everyone downvoting like it's the end of the world to do this, what about the car that pulls up right no the other side of the pump while you are filling up? You may have your car off, but let's say they are on the phone and let the car run for a few minutes before they step out. There's a chance their engine is closer to your gas cap than your own. But you don't bat an eye at that.

I shut mine off, but it's really not a big deal. You've got plenty of running engines around you while filling up.

With todays direct fuel injected systems...Not bad

Was more of a concern when vehicles were carbarated
