Sorry, Latino's more than 6%. You may be going off of the census which is incorrect...

Not at all. I think latinos make up 6% of the population.

I bet at least 50% of that 6% live in the Old Hammond/O"Neal area. Check the number of Mexician grocery stores East of Airline Highway. Off the top of my head I can count four, including the larger market that just opened on Old Hammond/S.Sherwood corner.

The whites never had a problem with the Vietnamese. The section 8 housing did it in (coupled with the low income housing off of Old Hammond).

Cortana certainly had something to do with as well, but this was shift greatly accelerated after Katrina. It's that area of town(including St.George in here too) that was affected by Katrina the most.

It's really a shame the list of streets in this town have gone to complete trash. Fricking Sherwood, what a joke. Government St is out of control, shitty to drive on, check cashing/advance cash place every .3 miles.

that other side of Sherwood at night from 12 to Old Hammond isn't exactly a walk in the park either.

dude Government street is the home of gentrification in Baton Rouge. It's going to be all bike and pedestrian friendly. Mid City homes values are going through the roof.

Capital Heights, the renovated BRMHS, CHS, City Park, etc(even BRCC helped with this). It's where the hip art folk live or rent.It really is ridiculous to how trendy living in Mid City has become.

I lived near St Thomas More for a few years. I never had any trouble and I honestly enjoyed my time there.

This was 5 years ago.

Overgrown grass, high turnover restaurants, delapitaded strip malls, eyesores of vacant buildings (Jack n Box and Carwash - Stumberg intersection). Also, Sherwood Acres apartments on Coursey look really rough comoared to 10 years ago.

Welcome to St. George!

The only decent thing in that area shut down at the beginning of the year. RIP Happy's, really was one of the only decent bars in the area.

The CATS bus system is ruining the Coursey area. Period. CATS needs to go.

Would NEVER consider that area. Never.

It's crazy how florida, government, northern airline used to be such thriving places but now it's all a shite hole.

Government is really only shitty in the short stretch from 110 to Park, and that area seems on the verge of a major turnaround with the Entergy Building project and proposed streetcar line.

When's the last time you passed by there? All those buildings are now remodeled and occupied. It's doing just fine.

Totally nuts.

There's new construction and renovated buildings all up and down Goverment St. I can think of 3-4 new restaurants going up or just opened. I can think of 1 check cashing place the whole stretch.

Yup. While St. George and Mall City continue to flounder, Mid City is chuggin' along just fine.

I can think of 2. There's one in a shopping center near Foster and another in that old Fast Track next to Superior.
