HDHP were never intended to cover an entire family. They were catastrophic plans originally.

The expansion of these plans as "primary plans" was the first sign to everyone in healthcare that Obamacare was a joke.

So idk this because it’s not an option for us but if you’re employed and your employer has insurance you have to use theirs????

If your employer offers insurance, no matter how shitty, you cannot qualify for a subsidy on the marketplace.
This is one of the drawbacks if your company has more than fifty employees but buys into shitty coverage.

I haven’t done the math for my family because my wife and I are both self employed. (She sells Blue Cross). So, I’m not sure if the the employer’s share gets close to matching the government subsidy. But I do know that you won’t be able to get a better plan without paying your premiums completely out of pocket (no subsidy regardless of income). It’s another black hole in the system.

In LA, Blue Cross (not sure of other insurers) started selling short term policies which are closer to the plans before Obamacare. Sometimes, Cheaper premiums and no subsidy, but they are subject to underwriters, meaning they look at you and your family’s medical history. I do believe but I’m not positive on this last point that these “short term” plans are NOT subject to special enrollment periods, meaning that you can opt into them at anytime of year under any circumstances.

One last thing.
frick Obamacare.

Who do you work for?
They don’t seem to have their employees in their best interest.
Take care of your employees or someone else will.

Hey baw, for a wart, put some freshly sliced up garlic on there. Cut a thin slice and put the juicy side onto the wart and leave. Repeat for a few days and no worts. I'll only charge you a tree fiddy.

Can't even blame this on the employer any more - these plans are the only ones the insurance companies are offering.

Unless an employer has enough resources to go fully self insured (and there are a LOT of steps to get to that point), their options are extremely limited now.

That’s awful. Whoever negotiates your health insurance is doing a terrible job.

You are 250 people. Well, I don’t know if this is available everywhere, but when our company was in the 100-200 range, we belonged to a co-op where a bunch of small companies band together and negotiate benefits as a group. Our is/was TriNet. They are still around, but we out grew the news need for them.

You have some seriously sucky insurance. I am on a HDP. For a family of 5, my premium is like $650/month, but the company picks up the whole cost. I put $200/month in my HSA. Deductible is $4000 for family and 1,500 for individual. I am basically self insured unless something really bad happens.

why?

You can put up to 7k or so a year I’m a HSA, can invest it, and unused fund roll over.

TBH, given it’s triple tax advantaged nature, unless you have someone who is chronically ill covered you should max it out.

Those numbers make it sound like a catastrophic event policy.

The premiums are $92.60, twice per month.
OP - This is cheap AF and a good deal if you don’t use it. If you do use it, you should max out your HSA to at least pay the Dr.’s with pre-Tax money.

My HD-HSA Family plan is $574/month premium +$200 a month going to the HSA (Health Saving Account) So $774 a month ($9288/year) is gone before ever needing the insurance.

$3000 deductible then 80%/20% split that goes to 100% at $6000 max out of pocket.

I guess it could be worse. But it’s still not great.

That’s a shite plan, probably the worst I’ve heard of.

That plan that Obama said you can keep is long gone.

Isn’t it amazing that the Democrats pose themselves as health care champions when their party is solely responsible for our premiums and deductibles sky rocketing. Unbelievable!

The place I work at offers BCBS insurance. For a family plan with a $500/1000 deductible the cost is $1920, bi-weekly. That is insane.
I am retired military. Thank you Tricare..

The biggest failing of the ACA was that it made the working middle class feel like Ruth Bader Ginsburg losing her anal virginity to Shaquille O'neal.

You millennial snowflakes will drag up on a job because your tide pods and depression medicine aren’t free

How about you actually work instead of trying to go to the doctor every day?

We pay about $100/mo for two people (no kids).

Deductible is $250 in-network, $500 out of network.

OOP max is $1250 in-network, $3250 out of network.

Co-pays are $25-50 depending on if we are seeing a special or not.

Prescriptions run $5-20 depending on what they are.
