5'7 for a girl is less than ideal but definitely not short. 5'7 for a guy is

Not really, it's in the "normal" range.

5'7" has its advantages. You won't feel too cramped in an airplane seat, for instance. You can still get laid (well, occasionally).

I'm 5'9" and feel somewhat short. But I see just as many guys who are my height or shorter as I do taller. So yes, 5'7" is a little short, but it's not freakishly short like some of these guys are acting like.
