Happened to me before too...you will just need to file uninsured motorist claim. If you are in Houston, you would be foolish not to have UM coverage because half the drivers here have no insurance, much less a drivers license. Did I say Houston has a lot of illegals?? Thanks to our dumb arse president, Mr. Obozo!!

This is correct. The only UM coverage available in LA is UMBI (Uninsured Moorist Bodily Injury) which covers injuries sustained as a result of a collision with an uninsured/underinsured motorist.
If you have collision coverage on your vehicle the vehicle damage to your car is already covered if you collide with an uninsured/underinsured motorist.

The insurance adjuster for Farm Bureau said the damage done by his insured was greater than 75% of the vehicle's value. So, they took the damaged car and wrote me a check.

This thread reminded me to check on my coverage. It's a nice change going from LA to TN. I pay ~$450/ 6 months for two cars with Full 100/300 coverage including UMBI and UM property damage + rental reimbursement and roadside assistance.
This in LA (Baton Rouge) was running like over $1100 / 6 months for the same apples to apples coverage.

Um, no you just had UM for BI, property damage goes on your collision coverage. You can purchase UMPD if you reject collision coverage on vehicle.
