everything has a manufacturers warranty of 25 years. Maintenance consist of hosing off the panels maybe once a year, if that.
I don't know a thing about how they are set up but doesn't the system use batteries to store the energy.

It works. I can almost offer it with a net zero balance when financed over 12 years, zero subsidies.
What are going to do about the 0.5% cap? Entergy has shut down net metering.

Off grid system. Don't need entergy.

My bill has never been zero because Cleco charges everyone $11 in fees. So I've had a $11 bill 4 months out of the year. It's saved me on average $100 a month. It'll pay for itself in 4.5 yrs

Most current solar technology will be outdated in the next five years or so, it's better just to wait it out.

True off grid? Or net zero?
Either way, you should calculate battery and inverter replacements.
You know this already though don't you?

When you put those on your house everybody knows you voted for Obama

The only thing that's really changing much on the solar front is battery technology. Waiting a few years for better batteries may be worthwhile.
The modules and inverters aren't going to change much.

Except the sun has a pesky habit of being gone half the time, not counting rain, cloudy conditions, etc. Are you assuming extra energy is stored for use during those times? How much do those batteries and related equipment cost as well as their maintenance, replacement, etc?
Posted on 1/4/16 at 7:20 am to Placebeaux
it sure is nicer handling the transformerless ones the last few years

Imagine a world where 1 200lb battery has over 4000 amp hours. Now imagine that battery with a life expectancy of 15 years.

When solar gains enough momentum there will eventually be some sort of tax to be off grid.
The government and regulated utilities have been partners for years. The government is not going to let people just walk away without paying for all of that infrastructure.
Too big to fail you know.

So what's the overhead with maintanance included on the system? Their isn't a system on this planet of any kind that is maintanance free for 20 years.

It will be interesting to see the change. It cant come too fast IMO, that will cause chaos....global chaos.

There are no moving parts. Spray the panels off and clean corrosion from battery leads once a year. It's very minimal.

There are no moving parts. The only thing that would need to be replaced in 20 years is the battery but we aren't talking a lot of money. Panels are good for 25 years. Inverter is good for 25 years. The charge controller is good for 25 years. The wiring is good for at least 25 years.

hell, son, you could say those exact same things about insurance companies, who also apparently cannot exist without huge government subsidies in the form of tort reform and damage caps.
most EVERY industry receives massive government welfare in the form of tax breaks, legal immunity, etc. Big Oil....traditional energy....is one of the biggest beneficiaries.
get outta here with that shite....
