my entergy bill hasn't gone up 3.2% over the last 25 years, much less anually.

Also, double check your homeowners, I know a few policies do not cover solar panels.

Manufacturers probably won't be around to support you anyway.
This is a real concern

Your bill will not be zero.
I never said it was

There are plenty of better investments.

Not many that garuntee a return on investment.

Seriously, though, go for it and keep us updated.
I've had my system for 1.5 years now. In 3.5, based on current savings, my system will pay for itself. If it lasts any amount of time after that, I'm in the black. By the time the warranty is gone, I'll be buy a newer better system.

Personally, I believe that solar energy is the future of energy for our planet. Are we a ways away from it being the norm? Absolutely, however, great strides are being made.

ETA: my system doesn't have a battery.

There are no moving parts. The only thing that would need to be replaced in 20 years is the battery but we aren't talking a lot of money. Panels are good for 25 years. Inverter is good for 25 years. The charge controller is good for 25 years. The wiring is good for at least 25 years.

If you really believe all of that then you have yourself convinced to a level that is unhealthy. Everything will not last 25 years I can assure you, and if it has batteries I will be speechless if they all last for 5 years with some going a little more or less. As far as a manufactures warranty they are just good for making excuses because you still have to have a certified dealer to do the service work because if not then they will only cover parts not labor. So now you are bringing in more excuses of "well manufactuer doesn't cover that" or "dealer is not certified to fix that". I am in a different line of work and don't know a ton about solar but can assure you that I know parts and warranties and the line they are feeding you is a line of shite. If you are the person feeding it then you are feeding a line of shite. That stuff looks pretty on paper but when things really start going wrong or someone gets a demon system I'll sit back and laugh at the inevitable ping pong match that will ensue when the manufactuer claims faulty install and the dealer claims faulty parts all while the homeowner is claiming a worthless piece of shite and having to pay his monthly note and an electrical bill.

Most people who use solar are not looking to save money.
