And 45 isn't "too much" if you are worth a damn

Also, when they offer whatever the amount is, visibly FLINCH!! Like they just stabbed you.

Reply, "based on all I bring to the table, I was expecting a range of $X-$Y". Finish the interview and ask if you can talk it over with your wife and let them know tomorrow.

Tomorrow, tell them after a lot of consideration, you are willing to start at $X, if it includes the annual 2 weeks paid vacation after 6 months.

Depending what state, good jobs are tough to come by. Don't get too greedy and miss out completely.

Where are you located?? That seems a bit ridiculous for a CM grad. I'm in LSU's program and everyone I know that graduated last week had jobs already lined up. No one got offered anything under 45k and there were a few guys that received 60k+ offers.

Where is this job? Shoot a bit high but not too high to put yourself out of contention if you really want the position.

Doesn't matter where you start. It matters how high the ceiling is, or if this is a good stepping stone.

Don't let people discourage you, the average college grad starts off around 40-45k

Well if it's an interview, wouldn't you wait to hear back from the company about actually getting said job to discuss salary?

It's a flooring company so we would sell and install hardwood, carpet, vinyl, tile, and laminate. They also do tile cleaning. They have a nice showroom which will help get jobs. Once we get the job, I'll run the show.

I graduated in Construction Management too, and this one company is offering me a position as assistant project manager for $35,000 a year. While it does seem kind of low, especially for a CM grad, I would probably take it because 1) I don't have a ton of offers to begin with and 2) It is one of the biggest MEP general contractors in the state and are very successful in the field. Despite a low salary offer, I think I can work hard, work my way up, and get great raises and benefits as I work there longer. I guess I can say that as long as you get something, no matter what it is the pay or job is, you should take it if it's something you like, and the money will quickly come if you're good at what you do.

If you take 35 a year, you won't be happy. 35 is way too low and is almost an experienced entry level position. Damn teachers start out at 40.

Don't take that shite ask for 40 or walk.

If you are in Kentucky $41k a year should be enough to afford a shotgun house out in the country and feed your meth habit. Ask for it.

Well I unfortunately haven't been getting any other offers so I'm likely not going to have a choice. But either way, it's a successful company and it's something that will make me happy and work hard at. It's not all about the money.

That's pretty low, but if you feel like there is opportunity to move up it could be an okay starting point.

If the company can't handle 45k for a project manager, they might not be doing too well...

I started lower than that (I'm not a CM grad), but 6 years out I've moved up quite a bit.

The experience that you gain will be worth more than the salary that you receive when you are in your first couple years out of school.

Title is min $50k, I'd say closer to $60-65k starting.

If they can't provide that, you can still take the position, but know that with 1+ years of Exp you can get a 25% raise by interviewing for another PM position.

What does your resumè look like? I've had at least 10 friends graduate in the past year and the only ones who had any problems at all finding a job coming out were the guys who had 0 experience on their resume. Honestly if you were trying to get on with an MEP contractor your better off going to pull wire for ISC or MMR as a hand for 6 months and then applying for a job. Hell I had an offer for an "internship" with MMR pulling wire and the pay was pretty damn good.
