It is stale 1950s style thinking to view home ownership as a necessary component of becoming wealthy

Sure houses cost more but look at the sizes. Trad fams were averaging double the size with less than half the space. Maybe we have become spoiled over the decades.

no offense SFP...but you have always been one that likes to move around and have never been one that like traditional buy a nice house type of guy
combined with the fact you dont have kids...and if you are married, havent been for long...well you arent going to understand why someone with kids may want to buy a house.
it may not be needed to be wealthy but the whole argument is stupid. When you can show me a 2 decade period where housing essentially lost value...ill listen. but its kind of a dumb argument just trying to use the last 2-3 years a reasons why
i mean i started the build on my house only a little over 5 years ago and have an interest rate under 2.5. if interest rates go up around 8-10 then you may have a point, otherwise its dumb arguement.

Home ownership and obtaining a college degree are not really comparable other than they are the largest two debts folks can readily get early in adulthood. Having a stay-at-home wife with more than two or three kids would also fall into this same category of early expensive.
So compare all three?
So compare all three?

Owning a home (not one at inflated price) may end up Being a better choice than a lot of college degrees.

Why did boomers need bigger houses for smaller families?

Yes. I unwisely chose a house in the architectural shape of an underwater woven basket.
