I passed this way many times and today I noticed for the first time the crossed pistols on the bridge.

Pretty cool. Probably won’t keep it when they rebuild. Somebody will claim it’s somehow racist.

The craziest part of that bridge is how little boat traffic there is underneath it. Especially boat traffic that would warrant the incredible size of the bridge.

I refuse to drive on that bridge. No doubt it has to be one of those that the government has ID'd has failing.

Life’s small victories. You might not think so, but you need these just to keep going in your mundane life.

You beat me by 50 years.

Exactly. I'm assuming there were enormous plans for the development of the area north of the bridge... that just never happened.

Anyone know the clearance of the bridge and have an example of what type size boat could travel beneath it?

Theres a shipping channel down to the gulf. And with the increased plant activity, I imagine that traffic will increase significantly.

I feel so old. I've known this for at least 40 years...even before I was old enough to drive.

It was built so high to allow troop ships to navigate the river up to Ft. Polk. Strategic for the national defense.

Buddy of mine was a contractor with DOTD. He had a set of these pistols at his house. Said he found them while doing some surveying work near/under the bridge. Quite the souvenir.

I guess it would be, wouldn’t it? I didn’t really think about it being that far north. And I guess nothing goes up the calcasieu because it’s not very big for very long as you go up river
