"Terribly" is a massive understatement

Stooping to their level?

We'd have to go much lower.

Did they teach history wherever you were educated?

Because the first one didn't end the war, idiot.
The second one did.
You never heard the joke about two black eyes?

Just how stupid are you? People keep clubbing you over the head with facts but you refuse to accept it. The two bombings saved 100,000s and probably millions of American and Japanese lives.

I'm really not trying to bash you. However, "no mercy" didn't mean dropping a couple of bombs on a couple cities. There is video, audio, and textual proof of the Jap military propaganda. "Bloodthirsty American dogs will kill your babies in their cribs" is the most prominent one i remember. They were talking hand to hand bloody slaughter, not dropping bombs.

They would kidnap Korean womena dn force them into prostitution.
They would torture pows rather than adhgere to the geneva conventions. They only didn't attack the US in this way because they could not get to us. They tried bombs on balloons and also tried raiding fishing villages in Alaska.
They attacked the US first.
They encouraged their citizens and soldiers to fight to the death and kill themselves before surrender.

To invade would have cost over a Million lives, that 200k seems like a bargain. Also the firebombings killed more people.

This is also interesting. There was a guy (Tsutomu Yamaguchi) who survived both Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I've been to the beaches of Normandy and to the American cemetery there. I've also been to Pearl Harbor and to Japan. I don't live in a box and drink the American History Book Koolaide. I know what happened there.

Soldier on soldier combat is different than a-bombing two cities. America is better than that. I'll always stand by that.

Other people in here are getting emotional about their fathers being in the war. That is completely irrelevant.

I love America but I don't understand how anyone can think a-bombing two large cities was justified.

Were you okay with the fire bombings/ They killed more people.
The nukes forced surrender. I don;t think you really know much about this topic other than "nukes are bad".

Those aren't facts, those are speculations.

And all "facts" given are saying millions "probably" would have died. Also, all Japanese war crimes mentioned were against other countries.

Nothing on the scale of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has ever happened to the United States.

Breesus you've been arguing both sides, not sure if you're just trolling.

Does everyone you know think the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified and proud moments in American history?

To casual observers, that's kind of wrong, but so fitting in this case.

We warned them.. We even showed them and they still wouldn't surrender.. Justification was warranted knowing full well that America was tired and war weary from fighting on opposite sides of the world.. We needed the war to end..that's justification enough. But to add to that.. We were the best possible country to complete the science and to use the science. Our isolation, our government style and our sensibilities prove this out make no mistake....a bomb was going to be used by someone at somepoint.

I have no idea why im being bashed and down voted.

You do know the bomb killed hundreds of thousands of people in two civilian targets many of whom were women and children right?

I haven't made a political stance one way or the other.

Just pointing out that they were told American would have no mercy. We didnt. And they folded.

Our actions were absolutely necessary, and for the result, the closest to merciful that could be had from the situation. Our actions afterwards were the epitome of merciful for a nation that had exercised such incredible long term atrocities.
