It has always blown my mind that not a single African country has somewhat put it together enough to be even close to a modern western nation. South Africa was doing well but they're going backwards at a scary pace right now.

Parts of Kenya and Namibia are decent these days. If the communists and warlords don’t interfere, Lagos, Nigeria could be nice in 20 years. The economic boom there looks very similar to many large Indian cities 20 years ago. Capitalism is rapidly pulling millions out of poverty there.

Rhodesia was booming, as was S Africa.
