Landscape and scenery...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I lived on California's central coast for 10 years. By all accounts, it is the "perfect" part of California. Perfect weather year round. Perfect scenery. Perfect little towns straight out of a movie.

Got tired of it and moved to Utah. Lived on the side of a mountian there. Lived there for 10 years. Got tired of it even though it was very beautiful.
I grew up in the SF Bay area and spent lots of time on the central coast but the northern interior part of the state (Mt Lassen area) has always been my favorite.

I spent my summers in Orem, traveling that state with my grandparents and riding their horses in Provo Canyon, and really fell in love with that state. Particularly the desert, when we would stay with family down in St George. Something about the solitude and massive grand scale of the SW deserts just call to me.

I'm in AZ now, but around a mile in elevation, so it feels pretty close to the Provo area as opposed to Phoenix, which everyone assumes it's like here when I tell them I live in AZ.

I grew up out this way though, so I've never had anything pulling me "back" east. Where are you now, if you don't mind saying?

Tell us again how you have never been to California.

You can hate the politics all you want, but it is the most beautiful state we have.

it's only real con is high taxes.

It wasn’t that long ago that I read Minnesota had the best value for their tax dollars when compared to every other state. In other words the money is well spent.

I can completely see why Louisiana people complain about their taxes. While they are among the top 10 cheapest in the country, I don’t see where that money goes.

I pay property taxes in a few states and I have to say Colorado has the most value. Stuff is kept clean, the roads are fairly nice, and public space is well maintained. In Boulder County we have 300+ miles of paved bike trails and they are typically all plowed hours after it stops snowing.
