Whataburger is as overrated as In-N-Out.

Completely disagree. Whenever someone visits the south, no one says “oh man make sure you go to Whataburger while you’re here!”

For some reason In-n-Out is a thing to go out of the way to eat for people when they visit CA or one of the few other places that has them.

I think the draw is the simplicity of the menu and the freshness of the products. Their fries have let me down from time to time but having cut fresh from hole potatoes is a redeeming factor.

agreed- I don't love in n out fries (but I do love their burgers), but read about how McDonald's prepares their French fries and what the in n out process is.

also, I suspect alot of the in n out hate around here is simply part of the overall anti-california sentiment.

Not at all, at least from my end. I absolutely love CA. But In-n-Out was terribly bland and the fries were like cardboard.

I associate Whataburger with Texas and I've definitely heard that from Texas baws. Both of them have weird cultish followings that aren't justified by their food.

I don't disagree with you on the fries, because, as the other poster mentioned, it's more about the freshness and simplicity in which they're prepared.

but what else did you order that you felt was bland? they're burgers are anything but, especially at that price point. IMO the in n out spread, "animal style", etc. are quite flavorful.

I got what everyone recommended: double double animal style. Is was alright. Not good, not bad, just kind of “meh”

I've had gourmet burgers in the $10-20 price range that blow away an in n out double double.

But for $4, I've never had anything at that price point that competes.

fatburger and 5 guys aren't nearly as good as in n out. shake shack is tasty but really expensive and overpriced imo. haven't tried whattaburger.

I’m not saying it’s a bad value, but it’s hyped as being so unbelievably good and I just don’t see it.

I definitely think Shake Shack >>>> In-n-Out

Went to Cali and my friend raved about I&O. It was terrible. Burger were meh, fries were hard, not crunchy my break your teeth hard.

Whataburger >>>>>> in n out

In n out is closer to my house, but I’ll go to whataburger on the off chance I eat fast food.
