I drink like 2 Barq's root beers a year with a shrimp po-boy. Been that way for almost four years. Before that I was drinking around four or five diet cokes a day. Went from 195 to 170 in about six months. Added exercise and a better diet since then and weigh 156 now.

I drink black coffee, green tea and water during the day. Have not cut back on alcohol at all. Soft drinks are just terrible for you.

A better question would be, if you did everything you just said, and cut out all alcohol, but kept drinking the diet soft drinks, would the results have been the same?

Until you do that, no way to really conclude that the soft drinks are actually any more terrible for you than the alcohol.

Can't understand why anyone would drink coke. Diet coke or coke zero sure, but coke?

you'd give up the beer and coffee as well.

Lol.. Maybe if you are having 4 frappacinos a day. A couple of cups of black coffee a day is very good for you.

I gave up soft drinks freshman year of high school (2003) for basketball and just never started drinking them again. I drank a shite ton of soft drinks mixed with alcohol in college, but I mostly drink beer, scotch, or gin now so no soft drinks. I don't think I could drink a whole coke without feeling sick or bloated. I drink coffee everyday though and I do drink tea It takes no effort to give them up, just switch it with unsweetened tea or coffee if you have too. No those aren't good for you but they're better than coke/DP ect... Or better yet just drink water instead.

The shite you drink is only a peg below soft drinks.

Simply drink water, it's free at restaurants, tastes great, and has zero calories. Benefits

Nope. I lost 25 pounds from just stopping soft drinks. Didn't start exercising until I lost the initial 25 pounds. I feel better now than I have since I was about 20.

I drink almost every day.

I know, and I think that's awesome, but I think you're missing my point. That might have happened if you would have cut your alcohol intake, and kept drinking the soft drinks.

You chose to cut the soft drinks and not the alcohol, and it worked for you. Doesn't mean that cutting the alcohol wouldn't have worked as well. Did you try that?

My coworkers guzzle soda. The quartermaster rations out snacks and sodas 3 times a day, and the soda fridge is about 20 rows across, 20 rows high, and it is filled with every kind of soda. Guy that works closest to me drinks about 6 sodas daily along with 2 Nesquik chocolate milks. I don't judge; let them drink what they want. I just wouldn't put it in my body.

How is this proving that soft drinks don't cause weight gain though?

I'm sure cutting out alcohol would do some things to you too.. but this isn't an alcohol vs. soft drink thread..

I'm sure eating better and exercising more would help too.. but again..

This is true. I lost 20 pounds in like 3 months when I stopped drinking 5 or so years ago I have put most of it back on over the last 6 months though because I go out to dinner and drinks 6-7 nights a week. Still worth it though because its fun and girls still seem to like me!

I never set out to prove that. Alcohol and regular soft drinks both have calories, thus, cause weight gain, right?

It was, unless the OP changed his OP.

That's been covered as well...

This.

Its not hard. Balance diet. Moderation. Exercise. You will be healthy. Yes, if you have a specific goal in mind, then no carbs or no meat or no sugar may satisfy yourgoal in the short term. But a balanced diet in moderation with regular exercise is all you need.

I've been drinking a lot of this lately. The Celestial Seasonings "sleepytime" tea is awesome.

My alcohol intake hasn't gone down throughout any of this. Coffee, tea and what goes into wine and beer are things that grow from the ground plus water. Read the label on a soft drink bottle.
