Gotcha. I purchased my SQ5 used and couldn't be happier with the decision.

Everyone has their opinion . . . Some are more rational than others.
To the OP, check out reviews by MotorTrend or some other source you deem reliable. Also, when I was searching for a vehicle, I watched several professional reviews on YouTube to help narrow down the choices. Just make sure that you know the details, such as engine size, of what is being reviewed. (JGC offers V6, V8, Diesel and SRT engine). Finally, in consideration of some of the choices you listed, you should also consider whether the recommended fuel is regular or premium.
Good luck.

Yeah when I tried to find a picture, I didn't notice what bothers me about them. I guess it's just an IRL thing. They seem disperportionatly tall compared to their width with the way the taillight cuts through the center of the car.
Sounds like you're an Explorer man.

put it this way, last time I went to buy.. was considering "hmm Jeep GC, looks decent enough", so I asked about a dozen or so people I worked with who all had JGC's.. "note their driving is mostly from home to office"
"yea it's GREAT!, everytime I need to take it in for work, the Mopar shop gives me a loaner!"
and
"well it took them 3 tries to get my heater working, but if finally works... sort of.. yea I like it!"
and
"yea my mechanic is great, he always tells me exactly why it died this time.."
it was the EXACT same, over and over..
now you be the judge.

Well, that's kind of what I'm doing. I heard all the negative stuff and stayed away until after the April 2014 fix they came out with. I absolutely would not buy a JGC made prior to April '14. However, I did buy a 2015 JGC Overland in October and have 12,000 miles on it so far without a single problem.
I think the problem lies in all the electronics associated with the new stuff like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning system, etc.... I'm not sure why anyone wants more electrical stuff on a car since it is just an invitation for stuff to go wrong. My wife wants a BMW that has the engine cut off at a stop and then restart when the foot comes off the brake. I told her if she insists on getting that technology then she better line up someone else to pick her up when it fails.

Yes because he said she said from some random person on an LSU message board is the de facto way to judge a vehicle.
Posts like that are why you shouldn't taken car buying advice from the OT.
Go drive them all, pick the best. If you're concerned about reliability, look on manufacturer specific forums...look to see what kind of issues people are having.

yea that's why asked people who actually bought them/owned them that I knew... rather than "anonymous people on a message board".
like I say, waste a ton of money, buy a JGC, it's all on you for not listening.

That wasn't the point. The point is that you have 0 credibility, because everything you said was anecodtal. I'm so sure those conversations went exactly as you typed them and weren't picked over from your memory to support your agenda.
I know two people who have had major issues with Ford F150's, but I'm not naive enough to believe that that means all F150s are junk and should be avoided. In reality, it's the best pickup on the market.

Referring to the Durango:
I don't know about the MPGs but the transmission is the exact same ZF transmission made in South Carolina by a German company that is also used in the Grand Cherokee.
I'm at 43k miles in 18 months on a JGC ('14 model). Zero defects over that time. I have averaged over 24 MPGs from the vehicle. I had an Avalanche before and am fine with the Jeep. Maneuvers while towing like a dream with the shorter wheelbase, the Durango looks hideous beside a GC.

Nope the ZF in the 6 cylinder molds is the licensed one made in the states. The one in the RT is from Germany. This may have changed for 2015, but in the 14 models they got the German made units. The may have not trusted the first runs from the stateside factory with the heavier HP load.
And I have 60k on my 14 and it kicks arse and takes names. Love it. Growls like a beast when my foot is in it. Only thing it's been to the dealer for is the license plate light bulb

You are correct, I was wrong. Thanks for not being an a-hole about it. I might take a lesson from your forbearance with me.

Acura, Lexus or Infiniti all three are great products
Mercedes is nice but expensive to maintain and repair
Skip the Caddy

I have the Caddy and my brother owned the Mercedes. We both agreed the Caddy had the nicer interior. Both were excellent to drive; you can't go wrong either way.

No the point is if you are wise enough to go ask people you know that have JGC's you'll see that they have a lot of problems.
but hey,, live and fjuk up,, it's a free country!
and btw,, "anecdotal evidence" would be the fact that I noticed more JGC's on the side of the road than any other vehicle.. which is also true btw.

Just bought a 2015 Subaru Outback...love it. Great handling and high-level finishes, sound system, etc.
