Im seeing lots of these guy riding oil derrick bumper stickers lately

Are people so proud of being oilfield trash that they want the world to know about it?

No different than most other vehicle stickers. People like to display something that identifies something they are connected with.
Whether that be a kids school or sports team, their favorite college, a hobby (fishing, hunting, running, etc), political party, etc.

My grandfather was riding the rigs when he was thirteen. He was an orphan in a hard time, and he found a home in the oilfield. My father was a wireline operator when I was born. And I am proudly an oilfield lawyer. So take your trashy somewhere else. I'm proud of my industry.
