Kendrick is a bit of a niche rapper.

He’s quite possibly the biggest rapper on the planet right now

He is not someone that is wildly in the cultural zeitgeist and mainstream

He gets nearly 90 million streams PER MONTH

I'm sure it was a great rap show.

It was not, that doesn’t make what you just said any less fricking retarded

I know Kendrick Lamar

Money Trees is one of my favorite rap songs. Maad City is great.

Etc etc

But that performance was fricking awful.

Kendrick’s music is very lyrical. You need to hear and understand the words. It isn’t for dancing. It isn’t high energy.

It sucked. Full stop.

And what’s even worse is all the racism manufacturers saying “you’re not Black so your opinion is invalid” or “dumb white people disliked it obviously”

I’ve seen people on Instagram saying it was ICONIC and pure poetry.

Give me a fricking break.

Just because he’s black doesn’t mean you can’t face facts and say his performance was anemic.

That's because there were no songs in it unless that is what passes for music these days.

So what? He is very popular among people that love rap. Before Not Like Us he was just not that big outside of rap circles.

Outside of rap circles even now, anyone over 30 barely knows who he is.

He is not a pop star which is the point and what you expect to see in the SB Halftime Show. He is not a Bruno Mars type "entertainer", which is also what you expect to see (Spectacle)

I get you are emotional because you obviously are a big rap guy. Most people aren't, and they don't have a fricking clue who Kendrick Lamar is.

I liked the beat, but couldn't understand much of it. My son was dancing and rapping along with him.

I think you're extrapolating your own personal tastes in music to everyone. Kendrick Lamar is a huge name.

It was nota good halftime show at all, but GTFO acting like he's some no name guy.

Projecting your own feelings to something when there are mountains of data is one of the lowest forms of intelligence there is.

You can not like something and still understand it’s EXTREMELY popular. Like, that’s incredibly fricking easy. You have to be a true retard to not understand this concept.

Fascinating

You are very emotional about this.

Perhaps you are too close to the situation and cannot understand how 90% of the viewing public felt last night.

I know some of Kendrick's music. He is a very talented artist.

He is not a big enough "star" or the type of Entertainer that should headline a Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Even SZA, who I enjoy and had a big year, isn't close to "big" enough to be the surprise guest.

I actually like Kendrick Lamar

Not a "Super Bowl Halftime Show Huge Name"

There is a difference

You keep moving the goal posts. I don't see many here arguing that it was a great performance.

They’re 9th and 10th in monthly Spotify streams

Pretty much every comment I have seen on last night's show.

We will just agree to disagree.

Using Spotify as an example proves my point. The largest demographic for Spotify is 18-24, by far. That is wildly different than the average Super Bowl watcher demographic.

Missed it live. Just watched a replay and it wasn't terrible. I'm not a Kendrick fan, and still think that Lil Wayne would've been better, but it wasn't the worst halftime show ever.

Every comment you see is that Kendrick isn't a big enough name? Shut up

GTFO boomer 55-70 is the 3rd largest demo on spotify, so plenty of grey hairs use the app.

The thing is, it isn’t really a debatable topic, you’re just wrong.

You can not like the performance, and that’s totally fine, I didn’t think it was very good myself…. But that’s not what you’re arguing

FWIW, The Grammys are voted on by the Recording Academy, not the people buying the music.

So, its meaningless to me.
