They key is not to argue, or you will almost be guaranteed to have a bad day.

just say thank you. We probably know each other. Got there October 15 2015. Also, you are immune from FCC's the first week.

They tend to get a little aggressive with things at times, especially first day people and people who in general just act up. My experience was about 3.5 years ago though. Maybe it's changed.
Like what? Yell at you? make you do pushups?

Why would they take his phone?
Why wouldn't they take his phone? They take everything when you first get there. Can't have books except the bible and the big book until you reach a certain point. They do everything they can to get you to not have a way to isolate. They want you engaging with others and building healthy habits. If you are not doing that, that is what FCC's are for.

@Brinner, we probably do know each other. I was there from August 2015, through Nov. 2015. Left just before Thanksgiving. You're right. No FCCs the first week. Forgot about that.

You're checking out guys? Geez - is this some kind of pray-the-ghey-away rehab?
Just kidding.
Praying for you, bud. Trust the process and best of luck.

FCC = Fears Cares and Concerns. It is where your peers/the community bring up issues they are noticing about you. Could be you are breaking this rule or could be you are still engaging in this behavior which will keep you drunk. If you are repeat offender or don't take it well the councilors will get on to you and that can get pretty brutal in the things that they say. If develops into argument or you are repeat offender, you could get wash the fence, rake volleyball courts, lanscape or all sorts of physical labor.

that's the sad thing right there. wish the best for the kid, but AA and the 12 step program isn't and hasn't been(for some time,)considered the tip of the spear, or even a recommended path of treatment by substance abuse/relapse prevention professionals

Wait..what? I know it doesnt have a stellar sucess rate, but i thought 12 step groups were still chief amongst all the therapeutic methods. What's changed?

LOL, would love to hear what the recommended path is.
Palmetto would probably not be a "recommended path". It's a tough love style place that doesn't put up with BS and works.
The only thing that actually works is you stop doing what you think you should do. Find someone you admire in program and do what they tell you to do. Run everything by that person and I mean everything.

quote:& Runt, please, let's don't turn this into an argument in this thread, everyone is hoping the best for the kid, just have a lot of experience volunteering with the EAP at my company and at least from my perspective, and that of lot of professionals in that area, AA is bad juju, and not very effective

Just remember, this isn’t AT ALL your fault. It’s just a disease.

Meh, they usually cut people some slack when they are very new. I believe you have to be there either 48 or 72hrs before you can sit in on FCC’s.

just wondering what your experience tells you.

I'd like to expound, just not in this thread, but mini cliffs: cult, set up for continuous failure, huge behind the scenes profit center(deals with treatment centers,) dependent on relapse for continuing revenue stream, there's more but that's all for here
Posted on 1/10/19 at 10:23 am to 777Tiger
Sounds like you are not talking about AA, but treatment centers.
