I'm gonna wear a mask

So I wore a mask for the first time today. I’ve been doing my best to only leave home if I have to. When I made the home made mask, from a business sweater and looked in the mirror I paused. I wondered was it even safe for me to wear the mask in a store that wasn’t like an “official mask” — because I’m black and too often that alone is makes me suspect. Add a mask to the situation and I could be anything, but what I am. A dad shopping.
I don’t know how long this will go on, and I’ll do my best to limit my time in these streets. I just ask, when you see Black men, Black women, Black boys, Black girls, don’t feel threatened. We just shopping. We just getting gas.
It’s crazy I’ve never worn mask or things like that because as a black male, some things I just don’t do. Just know, this Coronavirus is life or death. We don’t want our next shopping experience to end up in immediate death because some person got scared of black folks in mask. We just trying to survive. That’s it. #KeepPushing #LetUsLive

I drove through a very sketchy part of Lafayette, Louisiana today. A lot on homeless in that area, a lot of people just hanging out. I was surprised at how many extremely lower class back people were wearing masks while just hanging out on the street. Kinda cool, actually.
