If you're on unlimited data w/ AT&T

And you get a text saying that you have reached 16 gigs, you better check your data app. They sent me a text saying that I was at 16 and really I was only at 12.
They have resorted to lying now about your data usage to get people to use wifi to avoid being throttled at 22 gigs.

How do you use 16Gb of data a month? Streaming movies when not on wifi?

Yeah. It's dumb.
You get unlimited only by having it and being grandfathered in...then they scare you about using too much of their network.
And every time you walk into the store and they look at your plan they want to offer alternatives that are better for how much data you use.

I have 30 gigs a month shared between an iPhone and a tablet and I go over sometimes.

AT&T made the deal with unlimited data, and now they're going to have to live with it.

I'm hanging on to my unlimited plan as long as I can.
Wifi at my work sucks so I rarely use it and I like the freedom of not having to constantly look for wifi when I go places so I don't use up my data. And now that they don't throttle until 22gb? Yeah def worth keeping for the time being.

They kept giving a warning at 4 or 5 gigs saying they would throttle it in busy times. I never use that much. I sent them a text back that said lawsuit and yall still haven't learned.
Probably just a coincidence, but a few days later I get some text about giving me free nationwide roaming or some shite that I don't need. Pretty sure everyone with unlimited got the same text, but I wonder if someone actually got that text back or if just a cpu just deletes it.

I'm about to upgrade my iPhone to the newest one so I'm curious how that will play out with keeping my unlimited plan.

Watch out for the wifi data assist. Even when you're on wifi data will still be used. So,turn it off.

If you're AT&T you should be fine. Don't change your contract though.

My understanding is that as long as you stay with the same type of device and tell them you want to keep unlimited data, they can't take it away.
We have a business account with several unlimited plans and the only downside is an employee with an iPhone can't switch to an android and vice versa. I guess it's something AT&T is using to try to nitpick and find any way they can to take away unlimited.

Yea, don't let them trick you. They will say the next plan saves you money and bla blah blah. You will pay $199 I believe and the upgrade charge which was $38, but in the long run you will save from not worrying about wifi and going over on data.

Yeah trying to decide if I want to do the traditional subsidy/extend 2 year contract thing where you pay a discounted amount up front
Or
Get my phone directly from apple with their apple upgrade plan and enjoy a new phone every year and if att starts doing dodgy stuff with the unlimited plan I'm free to jump ship

I was actually told by an AT&T rep that I could change to a Samsung and still keep unlimited. I wouldn't put it past them to lie after this.

What app tracks data usage?
Posted on 10/5/15 at 7:27 pm to papasmurf1269
My wife and I have unlimited data from AT&T.. We both get texts every month -- usually after about 4-5 days in the billing cycle -- that say this:
"Your data usage this month has reached 3.75 GB. If you exceed 5 GB before your next cycle on DATE, you can still use unlimited data but your speeds may be reduced at times and in areas with network congestion."
Of course we go way over 5 GB, but who the hell knows if they're actually throttling it or not

Mine say may experience reduced speeds after 22 gigs.
