You’d actually be surprised by the amount of out of state residents that know Morgan City due to O&G from several decades ago

least 2% of the country knows where Chalmette is
nope
Then you got the oil industry, sugar industry, New York Knicks and NBA fans, the old battle enthusiasts, fishermen, travel ball families, Five Nights at Freddie’s fans

Thibodaux would have a little more name recognition due to Nicholls and athletics.
How many really follow FCS football or even know Nicholls is in Thibodaux?

Buddy Roemer said he went to Japan on an economic mission. When he said he was from Louisiana, he got blank stares. Then he asked if they had heard of New Orleans, and they lit up with recognition.
When traveling as a tourist, folks often ask where we are from. Shreveport is known to them more than you might expect because so many families spent time at Barksdale in Bossier City (or Fort Polk in Leesville) or they've been here to gamble. A few old folks know it from the Louisiana Downs boom era in the 80s.

More people have heard of Ruston than Houma and Lake Charles just because of sports fandoms and LaTech.
I am not so sure. You’d be shocked how many know the Morgan city/Houma area due to O&G relations way back when. I’ve met some in several states that either have family or worked there for a period of time when they were younger.
