If you were going to build rocket boots, how would you do it?

1) Material for the boots? What lightweight material provides best ability to protect the body from the exhaust?
2) Solid rocket boots or liquid fuel boots? What fuel to use? If liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, how to keep the fuel supercool with a miniaturized cryogenic storage unit?
3) How much fuel to use? Say, you wanted to achieve an altitude of 10,000 feet with a body weight of 180 pounds?
4) What would you use for directional thrusters?

I’d tie rockets to a pair of boots.

For the initial launch, I was thinking that a larger "stage" boot using solid rocket fuel burning for 50 seconds would provide thrust to get up to 10,000 feet.

Once that stage has burned, you can jettison the spent solid rocket section and with a smaller set of boots use liquid propellant (stored in an external tank attached to the chest).

To cut down on launch weight, you could scrap the thrusters and just use fiberglass wings for directionality.

Why stop at the boots?

Well, you're gonna need rockets and boots.

We might get there. First we need to get off the ground.

I want to be able to load 2 AIM-9 sidewinders and 2 AGM Strikes to the fiberglass wings and be able to launch using a HUD-based system. But I suppose that's going to add to the weight of the system.

Fiberglass is so last decade. Go with Vibranium or Adamantium if you can find it. Either is probably equivalent to the price of lumber right about now

Gonna need some Chemical and Aeronautical Engineers in the thread to tell me what the best propellant to lift these items off the ground would be.

I might settle for an aluminum frame.

Make sure you've got all your affairs in order is first priority on this adventure.

You’ll need to create a miniature arc reactor. Also you don’t want aluminum wings, any missiles fired will melt said wings I would think. That’s why I recommended the two nonexistent metals, you may want to just keep flying commercial

I machine parts for those. Yes, it will add a lot of weight.

i would make sure i had rocket gloves as well, really gonna be tough trying to stick the landing if I accidentally do the splits on the way down

I have the book of notes from the spacelab program director. If you can replicate the shuttle's weight, I have exact fuel mixtures and pressures for an array of payloads. That guy only had a mechanical and industrial engineering degree though.
