re: If you quickly walk 6-8 miles a day would you consider that a worthy work-out?

Time to get a CPAP old man.

Could be sleep apnea. Worth looking into. I have a CPAP now. Started it about 4 months ago. Best thing I ever did. And you don't have to be obese to have it. I had put on weight, but in hindsight, I think the sleep apnea started first. I worked out, at good but was tired all the damn time. Could not get enough sleep....ever. First night on the machine, holy shite!!!! I felt like I was on speed. Now it hasn't been like that daily and it takes some getting used to. But it's one thing you may want to look into. Get a good check up with labs. Check testosterone levels, but educate yourself on it before you start. A lot of docs misuse it and don't understand it. And of course, there is profit motive behind rx'ing it. Especially the depo forms (implantable pellets).

You'll get stronger over time.

Also, consider your footwear.

And are you sure it's that far? 6-8 miles? That's pretty far. I had job like that but it was about hiking...there wasnt something else added on.

And what you are doing is most assuredly exercise. It's fine to be tired. I don't think people walk 6 or 8 miles on a regular basis, so they don't know how long it actually is. It's a little under 2 hours of walkung.

I don't throw out the working out term a lot, but that's me. I would definitely say it's aerobic calorie burning exercise.

How much water do you drink per day? Dehydration can do all sorts of things to you. You need to make sure you're replenishing your fluids frequently throughout the day. Besides that, diet and sleep play a huge role in your energy levels.

Sounds like you have one of those fed-ex jobs where you work at a hub. Those poor bastards walk all night long.

And I got a theory why you're exhausted. Probably because you walk 6-8 miles every night. That shite is tiring. I used to walk 5 miles every day until I got a job that prevented me from doing it anymore.

Anyone who gives you shite about that and says that isn't a good workout is dumb as frick.

dehydration could do it. Exercise wise you just might want to incorporate something to really get your heart rate going. A hard 2 mile run immediately after work always helps me out. Even if I feel like shite during the run it helps.

Definitely could be sleep apnea. I would go get a sleep study. If you have sleep apnea, a cpap will change your life

Go get your testosterone levels checked. I struggled with the same issues and now I take a shot twice a week. Made a world of difference in my life.

I used to work in the field and was on my feet all day. I also ate like shite and felt like shite. I've been in an office job for a few years now and hit the gym hard for one hour. I also eat better, feel better, and am more rested.

My guess would be that you may have several issues to address: better diet and better sleep are the best places to start.

do some light googling on circadian rhythm. you'll feel better if you wake up at the end of a sleep cycle. as far as snoring goes, check with your doctor and see if you should look at deviated septum surgery or a CPAP machine if it's bad enough. try to rule out the stuff that's not affecting you at first.

carry a bag of chex mix or trail mix with you and munch all day to keep your metabolism going non stop. when i need to lose weight i eat at least 5 times a day, when im gaining weight its usually because im skipping breakfast and lunch most days. have to eat frequently to combat low metab.

ETA:: i feel similar after long periods of activity, but the prednisone i take kills my natural adrenaline production, so im shite after extended periods since im not making much of my own.

LOL, I actually work non stop when I'm at work... other than my lunch break... I don't get to carry snacks and drinks. I do try to down some water regularly.
