re: If you had to choose, which one would you restore? '67 Mustang Coupe or Fastback?

If you say so. You hear a lot about stuff like that, but you don’t see many videos of it happening. I currently own a ‘67 Fairlane with a 390, and a C-6. I have surprised the hell out of several new cars that are supposed to be fast. I’m sure I built my 390 better than Ford ever built one, partly because some of the cam, piston, intake, and carburetor options simply didn’t exist, but still.
The times they want to use for these old cars just aren’t realistic for several reasons, the most obvious being tire technology. I guess each generation doesn’t really respect the ones who came before, but prepare to be embarrassed if you’re stepping to a big block car from the muscle car era, expecting the best they can do is 14’s in the quarter. I ran mid 12’s in my 390 Mustang, and high 12’s in my Fairlane.

foot pedal wiper control,
They had those rubber bags for wiper fluid that rotted out quickly. In HS and college, I would use the foot pedal to convince people the car had rain-sensing wipers.

Is this the thread where we post gratuitous pics of our rides?

Had a 69’ fastback with a 390 / 4 speed in it back in the day.
Man I miss that car...

I grew up sweeping floors and learning to build engine in Gene Fulton's and Budd Moore's shops. Gene's house/shop was (and still is) next door to house I grew up in. I simply have no delusions about old muscle cars, I built them, drove and raced them for much of my life.
Further, I am talking about showroom stock vehicles. You rarely see an old muscle car restored to stock. There is no question in the modern world they have far more potential than they did then. I would love to run my E46 M3 track car against either your Mustang or Fairlane, it is faster with a smaller engine while being set up primarily to stop and turn. Cars are just more efficient (that C6, for example, eats a ton of power, a built C4 is a much better option) today, even a stock Mustang GT runs high 11s and traps at about 120. Don't get me wrong I still love muscle cars but stock today's cars are just significantly quicker.
