Your point?

In a 1 v 1 a Spit would outfly a Mustang.

It's not about 8 hours versus 2 hours. Or who can carry a bigger ammo or bomb load.

It's about 1- 3 minutes of sheer terror. A Spit has the same Rolls Royce engine and is much more nimble in an angles fight. And a P-51 doesn't have the typical energy fighter's advantage over a Spit either.

I'd take a mustang. It's always been my favorite aircraft.

To Tigerwaffe: My paw paw was a radioman in a PBY in the Black Cat Squadron. He's passed on, so I'm not sure where he completed his training.

I've flown a P51D and was able to sit in a HA112 (Spanish version of Me109 with Rolls Merlin) to do an engine run. The 109 was a very snug fit and the landing gear was so narrow taxi was an event. the P51D was just a dream to fly as long as you kept air moving over the laminar flow wing. Of the two the P51 was the obvious choice. But I could see where the Me109 could be a lot of fun as well.
