Yes, I can confirm this as a newly minted minivan owner. Adding twins to the two year old daughter next month some time. You definitely have to give up on any remaining sense of youth and being cool you may have had left when you make this purchase. As a 29 year old soon to be father of three, I've accepted this fact, and now I can just look at the minivan for it's positives: making my shitty life a little more convenient.

So wait, I'm finding out I'm not cool because there are people here defending their driving a minivan?

If you think about it for a second, you'll see I'm right. You thought more people would side with you on the pretentious "care what people drive" soapbox, but now you've discovered that most people don't care enough about what others drive. They especially don't care enough to start a whole thread on it. Lol

Pathetic

Most mainstream crossovers are actually minivans without the sliding doors. Pilot, Highlander, Explorer, Acadia.....all minivans.

Of course you'd resort to name calling. Nothing says taking the intellectual high road like calling someone a dumbass because he made fun of your minivan.

And nothing says self-confidence like vehemently defending your choice to ride around in a minivan. While telling people you don't care what other people think.

Why do you do this?

As another said, affordable and efficient vehicle for a large family plus secure adults do not have their self worth wrapped up in others opinions or what car they drive.

And no, I do not own a mini van. Though my wife did have one in the 90s/ early 2000's.

Never claimed to take the high road. You're not worthy of it.

Thank you for your honesty sir. God has obviously blessed you with a beautiful family and the requisite confidence to raise them to be strong of body and mind.

You seem very secure in yourself.

The funny thing is that they typically aren't very good at anything when compared to true SUV's and minivans. The third row is abysmal, and they often have decreased towing and offroad capabilities when compared to SUV's. I guess they work if you are trying to get the best of both worlds, but the majority of families would be better suited with a minivan.

Reasons for Minivan:

Cargo Space - with seats folded down has more space than a Suburban...can hold a 4x8 sheet of plywood easily

Younger Kids...in cars they open the doors quickly into other parked cars...sliders it doesn't happen.

Seats same number as largest suvs

Cheaper than largest suvs

More Fuel Efficient then largest suvs

Reasons against:

Vanity

Worried about what other people think

Not as much tow capacity as largest suvs

I don't have a van for you to be convinced about. I'm just not a backwoods, redneck, ignorant, mouth breather.

They're good for smaller families who don't really need the third row.

They're made for people like OP so he doesn't have to drive a minivan.

So much name calling. So upset.

Not even realizing the type of demographics that purchase vans.
