You can choose from any of the belligerents’ militaries or countries to make up the dream team. You only get three armies, two fleets, and two Air Force divisions or whatever the equal to an army is.

So for example:

Country leader: Churchill
Overall military commander: Eisenhower
1st Army: Zhukov
2nd Army: Guderian
3rd Army: Bradley
1st Fleet: Bull Halsey
2nd Fleet: Yamamoto
1st Air Force: Hugh Dowding
2nd Air Force: Carl Spaatz

Any list without Gen Marshall is lacking.

Rommel was an incredibly gifted General, but he wasn’t even the best in his own country. The Eastern Front for Germany had the most gifted German generals. Furthermore, we kind of romanticized Rommel to a degree I believe. No doubt he was a great man, but he wasn’t the best General in his military.

Patton on the other hand was the most gifted tactician possibly in the entire war. But his logistical skills were nowhere near that of Bradley’s who was also an extremely gifted tactician.

Possibly, but Eisenhower directed the allied war from Europe. Marshall stayed in DC for the most part I believe.

All he needed was some goddamned fuel! Keep his tanks running and he'll be in Berlin by Christmas.

Because in a war as massive as WWII, logistics are every bit as important as tactics.

Furthermore, you can make your own dream team. That’s why the subject line says “If YOU could have a dream team...”

I'd replace Halsey with British Admiral sir Bertram Ramsey

And replace Bradley with Patton

met him a couple of times, that man was a national treasure, we were all like little kids sitting around listening to him talk

one of the few things to come out of Verne Lundquist' mouth that I thought was interesting, they were neighbors in Steamboat when Olds received notification that he'd been elected to the college football HoF, he asked Verne, "is this a big deal, should I go to this ceremony?"

Ehhh... idk. Zhukov gives Patton a run for his money.
quote:

The war in Europe ended with victory and nobody could have done that better than Marshal Zhukov – we owed him that credit. He is a modest person, and so we can't undervalue his position in our mind. When we can come back to our Motherland, there must be another type of Order in Russia, an Order named after Zhukov, which is awarded to everybody who can learn the bravery, the far vision, and the decisiveness of this soldier. - Eisenhower
