Most drug names have at least something to do with either their chemical make up or more likely the effect they have in the body. Then some marketing gurus use that to create a random word like Xeljanz.

In this case - xeljanz is named b/c it acts on janus kinase receptors in the body - the jan part of it. The rest I think is just marketing. The drug's name is tofacitinib which would be hard for some to remember

Mycoxaphlopin is the generic name for Viagra, I read somewhere. Not sure how they come up with these names.
