I would rather be happy than rich. If you are happy you are happy. If you are rich and miserable, you are miserable. I would prefer to be rich and happy but overall I strive for happiness, not riches.

There is nothing wrong with either philosophy. I’m retired and my goal is to continue the lifestyle we have become accustomed to, to have our funerals and plots paid for, and to leave the rest to the kids, grandkids. I don’t want an extravagant lifestyle. I just want to be able to afford doing what I love.

I want to leave something to my very well trained financially children .

Gate and Soro ain't giving it all away. Their kids have a lot and most like will be CEO of dad's foundation.

As humans most of us desire a net gain on a number of levels in life. Personal quality of life means something. Not having to go to your kids for money means a lot. To do things you want to do in retirement means something. To be able to leave a little something behind for your kids is nice. To be altruistic and help others is also fulfilling.

There is the old axiom "give your kids enough so they can do something, but not too much so that they do nothing."

He who dies owing the most money wins the game.

If I find out I have 6 months to live I'm gonna clean out my savings, take out loans, max out my cards, and party big time while I can.

You need to attempt to leave this place better than you found it. However you define that is personal. People who leave their loved ones an inheritance feel like this is part of the equation.

If you do not feel that way, don't do it.

The Grateful Dead are named after an old colloquial phrase that means you die in debt, grateful to be dead... you got more out of life than you paid in.

Fun Fact of the day.

Gates idea of not leaving his kids money is slightly different that of the ordinary person, I believe he said they would get only 50 million.

As a parent, it has always been that I'd like to do at least as much as my parents did if not more. This includes leaving any surplus amount to my kids and grandkids. Keep in mind, you are not guaranteed good health at later ages and may need this money for medical bills. Life is not about you and all your partying. Quit being so narrow minded and self centered.

I think it's important to realize that you must raise kids/grandkids to respect inheritance otherwise it will have th opposite effect you want it to. And I agree, enjoy what you have and make the most of the money you make, no point in working forever to acquire currency that could all be wiped out after a war or large financial crisis. The dollar is backed by nothing but the value that we give it

Not caring about what life offers is superior to being caught up in worldly complexities when you should be in a prayerful calm.mood prior to your transition.

Love, or not?
