First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

How about if that couple had knowledge of an imminent attack

Then you don't understand the issue at all. I can see someone saying, "I get it, but they should help the Feds unlock the phone." Or, "This goes beyond what a company should do. I'm not for these murdering terrorists, but this is a broader privacy concern."

But, I'm at a loss you would take a position without understanding the complexities of it.

That's like the brain dead folks on either side of the abortion issue who say, "I don't get it." Sorry, don't mean to say you're brain dead, but you are throwing in with folks who are.

I highly doubt if (and that's a HUGE "if") ISIS were able to obtain a nuclear device, it would come down to cracking an iPhone to determine whether or not they could use it against the us.

There's a reason terrorists have been trying unsuccessfully for years to get their hands on a nuke. And that reason is it's virtually impossible to do so.

I wonder how some of these people think for themselves on a day to day basis and then remember that some of them probably don't. Then I just feel sorry for them and thankful they at least made it to adulthood (I suppose)

I haven't really followed this story but I am surprised the government can't open the phone without Apple's cooperation.

They can, but they do not want to incur the expense and risk. They know nothing is on the phone. They know this is a red herring to shift blame away from them (who badly bungled the visa issue, surveillance issue, the investigation, securing the home for evidence, etc.) - and they're shouting, "BUT LOOK AT APPLE!"

Apple has done nothing wrong. Apple shouldn't be forced into this position. But, they are. There is no privacy concern for the phone itself. The couple is dead. The owner of the phone is Syed's employer. They want the phone unlocked.

But the issue is - Apple will have to de facto break encryption on all their phones in order to do this. Denying that is true doesn't make it untrue.

Would y'all want Osama Bin Laden's iphone hacked? What about the 1 eyed Egyptian Dr?

neither one of those people are/were American citizens, so they are not afforded the same rights in America as the male in this case.

Actually, you probably wouldn't need the phone. You could pretty quickly figure out whose nuke it was and go from there, it isn't like there are too many potential sources.

First it is one, then it is two, then it is everybody's phones.
