The problem with your logic is that people who are obviously sick, and hence obviously contagious, most likely will self-quarantine and a mask isn't necessary. We know that a large portion of infected people don't have any symptoms at all, but what we don't know is how contagious they are. That's why it is "suggested" that we all wear masks.

Replace the absolutes with "less likely" and "more likely", and yes that is correct. Further, particles of fecal matter will travel much further if you are bare-assed.

It is almost impossible to measure the magnitude of the effect, but the fact remains that any sort of physical barrier between an infected person's mouth/nose and the rest of the world is better than nothing. And even if it only reduces the odds of infecting another person by 10%, that is quite possibly enough to reduce the reproductive rate from higher than 1 (which means cases will grow) to less than 1 (which means cases will shrink).
