That's because in times of emergency, the LA Dept of Insurance issues declarations that do not allow cancellations for any reason.
Makes sense. As opposed to altruism from insurance companies. Which does not make any sense.

Insurance companies have 2 goals
1. Extract as much money from you as possible
2. Pay out as little money as possible

They're insurance companies.
An industry governed by former insurance company execs.
An industry that can cancel your coverage even if you've never filed a claim.
And they do it with impunity.
You know the answer.

So their job is to maximize profit. Sounds like every business that wants to stay in business.

If you considering canceling a policy please talk to them directly. I am POSITIVE that many are working with customers right now.

and many (Humana for sure) have seen increases.
Humana is killing it in this part of SC with Medicare Advantage Plans. If you're under 65 and on disability, an MAPD is all you can get to supplement Original Medicare. Even with those over 65, they and UHC probably have about 40% of the Medicare plans in the area.

They haven’t done that.
GEICO and Progressive are the only companies that I’m aware of that have postponed payments until 4/30 if clients need them.
